How To Go About Registering A Dog

Registering a dog is not obligatory as dog owners have the option to register or not to register the pet. Purebred dogs are commonly registered but even if a dog does not hold a club registration certificate, it will still remain the wonderful and affectionate companion of man.

A kennel club registration certificate is not an assurance that the dog will not be destructive when bored nor would it mean that the dog will suddenly be affectionate to the people it does not consider as its friends. Taking time to register the pet though is important as you may think of breeding the dog someday. The pet can be mated with any other dog but if you want to preserve the pedigree you need to mate the dog with another purebred and this is only possible if your dog is registered. When a puppy is purchased the breeder should provide the new dog owner with a Dog Application Registration form as this will be needed in case the owner decides to register the dog.

Breeders of purebred dogs are required to register their dogs. Owners of companions dogs would not think of registering the pet. However, an owner that registers the dog would be in for a lot of perks. Dog owners are certainly proud of the achievements of the pet. A dog that garnered awards in kennel club events would make an owner extremely proud but this will only be possible if the dog is a registration certificate holder.

The dog can be registered in two of the major kennel clubs - the United Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club. Although filling up the registration form and paying the registration fee can be accomplished easily, a dog has to meet some requirements before it can be accepted by the kennel clubs. One of the requirement of the American Kennel Club is a verified parentage for three generations. Additionally, the sire and the dam as well as the litter must be registered by the breeder too.

Puppy buyers must be provided with Dog Registration Application form by the dealer. A dog owner can fill up a paper copy of the application or complete an online form. An owner registering a dog has to supply information about the pet, data about the owner and the owners of the litter. The registration certificate will be sent through mail by the kennel club after the registration form is submitted and the registration fee paid.
